June was decidedly cold (median temperature 11 °C) and gloomy (8kWh/day of solar production is an all time low). Outside temperatures ranged from 2 to 22 °C, while inside we were a comfortable 18 to 23 °C. The HRV was in heating season nearly the entire month, and the split system was set to heat during peak solar production (not that we had a whole lot of sun in June) and set to heat to 18 °C overnight for essentially the entire month. Temperature from inside and outside the house as the percentage of hours in 0.5 °C bins. I've scaled the temperature in hope that I will be able to use the temperature range for all months. Methods:  I have taken the 5 minutely data from the wirelessTag sensors and calculated the median temperature for each hour and determined the proportion of hours falling inside of the 20 - 25 °C target temperature (using the R functions 'aggregate' and 'hist'). International Passivhaus Open Days - June 2024 edition. We were open and hosted 40-50 people (didn't get an accurate count). We met some lovely people and chatted passivhauses. Just because folks asked... a couple of graphs (using the same hourly data from the monthly summaries). An updated all available data (40,133 hours) histogram: An important note on these data. More than half of the hours above 25 °C (546/1026) occurred in the first 6 months of living in the house, and all of the hours where the inside temperature above 27 °C were in the first 6 months living in the house when we were still determining the optimal HRV settings and how to manage the house temperature (learning that a passivhaus is designed for temperature inertia and benefits from a set and forget approach). Looking at 37,258 hours between March 2020 - June 2024, the house is in the passivhaus target zone of 20 - 25 °C 95% of the time, and in our target range (18 - 12 °C) 99% of the time. April moved into autumnal weather (median temperature 17 °C). Outside temperatures ranged from 9 to 31 °C, while inside we were a comfortable 19.9 to 24.9 °C. The split system was off for the entire month and the HRV was inbetween seasons. Temperature from inside and outside the house as the percentage of hours in 0.5 °C bins. I've scaled the temperature in hope that I will be able to use the temperature range for all months. March had typical summer weather (hot days but cooling off at night)fading into fall towards the end of the month (median temperature 20.7 °C). The HRV was in the cooling season but we were able to cool the house by openning the windows in the evening / night (I runined what was set to be a perfect 100% in the passivhaus temperature range for the month by leaving the windows open on night). The split system was cooling during peak solar production but not overnight. Outside temperatures ranged from 12 to 24 °C, while inside we were a comfortable 19 to 25 °C. February was definitely summer but very overcast with much higher humidity and overnight temperatures than other months in recent memory (median temperature 21.7 °C). The HRV was in the cooling season and we were often not able to cool the house by openning the windows in the evening / night as the overnight temperature didn't drop far enough. The split system was cooling during peak solar production and even overnight when the temperature did not drop. Outside temperatures ranged from 14 to 38 °C, while inside we were a comfortable 20 to 25 °C. The month was quite overcast which decreased our solar production... and running the A/C overnight resulted in higher energy consumption relative to last year.
